Our Approach

What makes us different

We believe families deserve clarity and care — not a sales pitch. Every arrangement is handled with the same attention and honesty we would want for our own loved ones.

Simplicity

Arrangements can be completed online or over the phone — no need to visit an office during one of life’s hardest weeks. From the first call to the return of your loved one’s remains, we handle the logistics so your family can focus on each other.

No Hidden Fees

You pay only for what you need. We publish our prices, honor our quotes, and never pressure families into services they don’t want. The number you see is the number you pay — from your first phone call through the final invoice.

24/7 Support

Our care team answers the phone around the clock, every day of the year — staffed by Vargas-London employees, never an answering service. Whether you call at 2 p.m. on a Tuesday or 3 a.m. on Christmas morning, a real person who knows your situation will pick up.

The Vargas-London Promise

Our price is our word.

If your loved one is under hospice care, we guarantee to honor the price we quote you — even if our general pricing rises in the future. our professionals are never incentivized to up-sell services or merchandise. Their success is measured one way only: by how well they support the families who walked through our doors during the hardest moments of their lives.

How It Works

We walk you through each step

From the first phone call to the return of your loved one’s remains, our advisors stay with you. Here is what to expect.

You Make Arrangements

Call our care team or complete the online arrangement form. When death occurs, we take your loved one into our care — usually within two hours.

We Handle the Paperwork

Documents are prepared and sent to the family electronically. We contact the attending physician, obtain authorizations, and file the death certificate with the State of Texas.

Cremation Occurs

Your loved one is cremated at our licensed Texas crematory using strict chain-of-custody and identification protocols at every stage.

Remains Are Returned

When the cremation is complete, we notify you the same day. Remains can be picked up in person or shipped anywhere in the continental United States.

A note on timing. Typical cremation is completed in 7–10 business days, though timelines vary based on medical examiner involvement, physician availability to sign the death certificate, and county permit processing. Certified death certificates from the State of Texas generally arrive about three weeks after the date of passing. Your Vargas-London advisor will keep you informed at every step — you will never wonder where things stand.

Our Leadership

The people behind the promise

Carlos Vargas and Reggie London started Vargas-London Funeral Home together. Two friends with a shared passion for funeral service, who decided to open the kind of funeral home they wanted for their own families — transparent pricing, unhurried care, and the same dignity for every family regardless of budget. Carlos is the CEO and the firm’s Texas Licensed Funeral Director. Reggie is the Chief Operating Officer.

Carlos Vargas, CEO & Texas Licensed Funeral Director, Vargas-London Funeral Home

Carlos Vargas

CEO · Co-Founder · Texas Licensed Funeral Director

Carlos is the CEO and co-founder of Vargas-London — and the firm’s Texas Licensed Funeral Director. He carries the TFSC license that lets us serve Texas families and personally signs off on every service. His philosophy is straightforward: every family gets the same care, the same honesty, and the same respect — regardless of budget or service selected.

Carlos and Reggie started Vargas-London together because they both believe transparent pricing and unhurried care should be the standard, not the exception. Carlos oversees funeral operations: from the moment a loved one is brought into our care through the final return of remains.

Reggie London, Chief Operating Officer & Co-Founder, Vargas-London Funeral Home

Reggie London

Chief Operating Officer · Co-Founder

Reggie is the COO and co-founder of Vargas-London. He shares Carlos’s passion for funeral service and the conviction that families deserve better than the funeral industry’s default. The two of them started Vargas-London together because they wanted to build the kind of funeral home they would want serving their own families.

Reggie leads day-to-day operations and the systems behind our published price list, online arrangements, and 24/7 care team. If our arrangements move faster, our communication is clearer, and our pricing stays honest, Reggie is the reason.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions Richardson families most often ask us — about our service area, cremation timing, local paperwork, cultural and faith-based services, and what to expect at every step.

Serving Richardson
Do you serve Richardson, Texas?

Yes. Vargas-London Funeral Home and Cremation Services provides cremation and funeral services to families throughout Richardson, from Canyon Creek and Heights Park to Prairie Creek and Cottonwood Heights. Richardson is one of our primary service communities, with 24/7 response for at-need transfers across both the Dallas County and Collin County portions of the city.

Which Richardson ZIP codes do you cover?

All of them — 75080, 75081, 75082, 75083, and 75085 — plus the unincorporated areas immediately adjacent. Whether your loved one passed at home near Arapaho Road, at a care facility off Belt Line, or in north Richardson near Renner, our response and our pricing are the same.

How quickly can you arrive in Richardson for an at-need transfer?

Our typical response time to any address in Richardson is 30 to 60 minutes, day or night. Our office at 12101 Greenville Ave. in north Dallas is roughly five miles south of central Richardson on Greenville Avenue, with quick access via US-75 or I-635. When you call, we dispatch immediately — there is no waiting until morning. Our team is on call around the clock, every day of the year.

What Richardson hospitals and care facilities do you work with?

We work with every hospital and skilled nursing facility serving Richardson residents, including Methodist Richardson Medical Center and Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Richardson, along with assisted-living, memory-care, and hospice providers throughout the city. Our staff is familiar with each facility's release protocols, which keeps the transfer process quick and dignified.

Can Richardson families arrange services entirely online?

Yes. Our arrangement process — from initial consultation to document signing — can be completed by phone, video call, or secure online form. Richardson families who would rather not leave home during bereavement never have to. When you prefer to meet in person, we can do that too; we simply do not require it.

Do you coordinate with Richardson cemeteries and memorial parks?

Yes. We coordinate burials and interments at every major cemetery serving Richardson families, including Restland Memorial Park, Ridgeview Memorial Park, and Dallas–Fort Worth National Cemetery for eligible veterans. We handle scheduling, permitting, transport, and on-site support so your family only has to be present.

Cremation Process
How much does cremation cost for a Richardson family?

Our direct cremation package starts at $895 — the same transparent price offered to every family we serve. Memorial cremation with a service is $2,495, and traditional funeral with burial starts at $5,495. Richardson residents pay the same as every other family; there are no ZIP-code-based surcharges at Vargas-London.

How long does cremation take from start to finish?

Typical completion is 7 to 10 business days from the date of passing. Actual timing depends on the attending physician's availability to sign the death certificate, any Medical Examiner review, and county permit processing. Your Vargas-London advisor communicates each step so you never wonder where things stand.

Where will my loved one be cremated?

Every cremation is performed at our licensed Texas crematory. We never send loved ones to a third party or out-of-state facility. Chain-of-custody identification is verified at four separate stages — transfer, preparation, cremation, and return — so your loved one is never out of our care.

Can our family witness the cremation?

Yes. Texas permits family-witnessed cremation, and we honor that choice for religious or traditional reasons — particularly meaningful for families observing Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh, or other witnessing rites. Witnessed cremations are scheduled in advance, and we walk your family through every moment.

What do we receive back after cremation?

Cremated remains are returned in a dignified temporary urn at no additional cost. You may upgrade to a permanent urn from our catalog, provide one you have purchased separately, or use a family heirloom. Remains can also be shipped anywhere in the continental United States via USPS Cremated Remains service, which we arrange for you.

Paperwork & Legal
How do death certificates work for Richardson residents — Dallas County or Collin County?

Richardson is split between two counties, and that affects filing. Deaths occurring in the Dallas County portion are filed through Dallas County Vital Statistics; those in the Collin County portion go through Collin County. Either way, we file electronically on your behalf; certified copies arrive from the State of Texas about three weeks after the date of death.

What happens if the Medical Examiner is involved?

When a death is unexpected or occurs outside medical care, the Dallas County or Collin County Medical Examiner may take jurisdiction for review. This can add a few days but does not change our role — we still respond, still maintain custody, and still keep your family informed daily. Most Medical Examiner cases are cleared within 48 to 72 hours.

How many certified death certificates should a Richardson family order?

For most families we recommend 6 to 10 certified copies. You will typically need originals for life insurance claims, bank and brokerage accounts, real estate, retirement plans, vehicle titles, the Social Security Administration, and the VA if applicable. Additional copies can be ordered later but cost less when ordered up front.

Who signs the death certificate?

The attending physician, hospice medical director, or Medical Examiner signs the medical portion; we handle everything else. For Richardson hospice patients, the hospice physician typically signs within 24 to 48 hours. Our team follows up with the provider directly so your family is never caught waiting.

Do we need a casket for cremation under Texas law?

No. Texas law requires only a rigid, combustible alternative container — not a casket. If a family chooses a traditional viewing before cremation, a rental casket is available. This keeps costs down while preserving the option of a full service.

Faith & Cultural Services
Do you serve Richardson's Asian American and Chinese community?

Yes. Richardson is home to one of the largest Chinese, Taiwanese, Korean, and Vietnamese communities in North Texas, and serving these families is a core part of our practice. We coordinate around traditional viewing periods, joss paper offerings, Buddhist and Taoist rites, and culturally appropriate scheduling. Translated documents are available on request.

Do you coordinate Islamic funeral services for Richardson families?

Yes. We understand the urgency of Islamic tradition — burial as soon as possible, typically within 24 hours. We arrange ritual washing (ghusl) at the masjid, transport in accordance with Islamic practice, and burial at the Islamic sections of area cemeteries. We coordinate directly with the Islamic Association of North Texas and other local masajid.

Can you arrange Jewish funerals in accordance with Richardson congregation requirements?

Yes. We work with Richardson-area synagogues on traditional Jewish funerals, including tahara (ritual preparation), shomer watch, plain wooden caskets, and timing that respects Shabbat and holidays. We coordinate directly with the Chevra Kadisha and burial at Jewish cemeteries throughout the DFW metroplex.

Do you support Hindu and Sikh funeral traditions?

Yes. Richardson is home to a substantial Hindu and Sikh community, and we are experienced coordinating traditional rites including family-witnessed cremation, antyesti ceremonies, bathing and dressing by the family, and the scattering of ashes. We work with DFW Hindu Temple priests and local gurdwara leadership.

Can a Richardson family host a service at their church or place of worship?

Absolutely. We provide transport, coordination, and on-site support for services held at any Richardson church, temple, masjid, synagogue, or gurdwara. We also host services at our own chapel if a neutral venue is preferred. There is no upcharge for off-site services.

Pre-Need, Veterans & Special Circumstances
Can Richardson veterans use VA burial benefits?

Yes. Most honorably discharged veterans are entitled to burial at Dallas–Fort Worth National Cemetery at no cost, along with a VA burial allowance. We file all VA paperwork at no charge, coordinate military honors including the flag-folding ceremony, and handle transport to the national cemetery in Dallas.

Is pre-planning worth it for a Richardson family?

For most families, yes. Pre-planning spares loved ones from making emotional decisions under pressure, ensures your wishes are honored exactly, and locks in today's prices under our Price Promise. It costs nothing to plan with Vargas-London; you may also pre-fund to lock pricing in permanently.

What if my loved one lived in Richardson but passed away elsewhere?

We can arrange transfer from anywhere in the continental United States back to Richardson, or handle cremation at the place of death and return the remains to the family here. For passings abroad, we coordinate international repatriation through the U.S. consulate and partner funeral homes worldwide. All costs are quoted transparently up front.

Can we scatter ashes at a Richardson park, lake, or other local spot?

In most cases, yes. Texas law does not restrict scattering on private property with the owner's permission or in uninhabited public land. Richardson city parks generally permit quiet, discreet scattering; for Lake Ray Hubbard or other public waters, scattering a short distance from shore is generally acceptable. We can advise on specific locations.
