Texas permits family-witnessed cremation, and we honor that choice for religious or traditional reasons — particularly meaningful for families observing Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh, or other witnessing rites. Witnessed cremations are scheduled in advance, and we walk your family through every moment.
Cremated remains are returned in a dignified temporary urn at no additional cost. You may upgrade to a permanent urn from our catalog, provide one you have purchased separately, or use a family heirloom. Remains can also be shipped anywhere in the continental United States via USPS Cremated Remains service, which we arrange for you.
Richardson is split between two counties, and that affects filing. Deaths occurring in the Dallas County portion are filed through Dallas County Vital Statistics; those in the Collin County portion go through Collin County. Either way, we file electronically on your behalf; certified copies arrive from the State of Texas about three weeks after the date of death.
When a death is unexpected or occurs outside medical care, the Dallas County or Collin County Medical Examiner may take jurisdiction for review. This can add a few days but does not change our role — we still respond, still maintain custody, and still keep your family informed daily. Most Medical Examiner cases are cleared within 48 to 72 hours.
For most families we recommend 6 to 10 certified copies. You will typically need originals for life insurance claims, bank and brokerage accounts, real estate, retirement plans, vehicle titles, the Social Security Administration, and the VA if applicable. Additional copies can be ordered later but cost less when ordered up front.
The attending physician, hospice medical director, or Medical Examiner signs the medical portion; we handle everything else.
